From aquafeed to human nutrition — a phased strategy for global impact.
The world’s appetite for protein continues to increase, driven by population growth and changing diets. In aquaculture and human nutrition, traditional plant protein sources are facing supply constraints and sustainability issues. Our leaf protein fills this gap, providing a new source that doesn’t compete with staple food crops and aligns with environmental objectives.
Europe accounts for roughly a quarter of global demand for high‑quality proteins. Strong ESG and regulatory drivers create a receptive market for sustainable ingredients. Norway stands out as a strategic hub for premium aquafeed. Imported soy and pea proteins cost €2.5–4.0 per kg, embedding logistics and currency risks. A locally sourced leaf protein targeting €1.8–2.8 per kg offers cost advantages and ESG benefits.
We pursue a phased market entry: aquafeed first, human food next. Aquaculture feed is a high‑volume sector where digestibility and consistency matter more than taste. This enables rapid validation and scaling. Once established, we will refine the protein for food applications, unlocking higher margins. Shared raw materials and processing infrastructure ensure efficiency across both markets.
Norway produces around 1.5 million tonnes of salmon annually, requiring about 1.8 million tonnes of feed. Over 70 % of plant protein in feed is imported, exposing producers to price and supply volatility. A sustainable domestic leaf protein can help secure supply, meet ESG expectations and maintain Norway’s leadership in sustainable aquaculture.
After establishing our feed market presence, we will diversify into human food applications. Potential products include protein powders, beverages, bakery ingredients and functional foods. Higher purity specifications will deliver premium nutrition for health and wellness markets. This diversification capitalises on a common processing backbone while expanding our impact.
